The setting of the valves is .010" inlet and .012" exhaust and they should be done cold...check them again when the engine has reached working temperature as they will close up slightly and should not be rattling at all, if they do you will probably find that the rocker that is rattling is worn where it rubs on the valve stem, really it should be ground to remove the wear and that will quieten it down. Just in case you don't know (sorry if you do) you set no.1 with No 8 open/No 2 with No 7 open and so on.....John....fergusontractors @ tiscali.co.uk   [Reply]  [No Email]

rustred 08-23-2012 07:53:07 184.151.222.55 Report to Moderator	Re: valve adj in reply to one mf35 z134, 08-22-2012 16:05:04   get #1 cyl. at tdc on compression. you do this by watching the valves on its running mate, which is #4 cyl. when one closes and the other one starts to open thats when you stop rotating the engine.#1 is on tdc on compression now. this is called valves on the rock. cause you just rock the engine a bit each way and the valves do the same. then when # 1 cyl. is set you just follow the firing order for the adjust ment. 1 3 4 2 in that order. 1 3 4 2 are the running mates for 1 and 3 cyl's * for cold adjustment you need to add a couple thou. to the hot spec. and this is the proper way to adjust valves.   [Reply]  [No Email]

Do the same to adjust the intake as the exhaust in on bottom. Do each cylinder the same. I do all exhaust then all intake. Mark each as you set.Makes no difference which ones are first. You may have to turn motor over several time to make sure each valve is on bottom.   [Reply]  [No Email]

Repest process for 2,3 and 4 cylinders. Note that there is a faster way to do it using firing order but it can get a bit confusing.   [Reply]  [No Email]
