I just got a TO35, Serial Number 147050. I think that makes it a 1955. I see several color shemes. Should it be gray sheet metal with a green body. It is not running at the moment. How do you know if it has Live PTO? Do you need an overrunning coupler on the PTO?

Yes it should be gray sheet metal with green hard parts. The prefix letters should tell if it is a single or double clutch. Typical prefix letters "SGM" S=standard/utility frame, G=gas, M=dual stage clutch which is live PTO. If the 3rd letter is a F it is a single stage clutch and not live PTO. You are correct it is a 1955. No ORC needed if it has a dual clutch, need a ORC with a single stage clutch if bush-hogging etc.

I was in a hurrry and thought that the TO-30"s went to 160000 instead of 140000. My goof! I should have known better.

early to-35 serial numbers did not have a letter prefix code before the serial number. maybe someone here could tell us at what serial number the prefix code commenced.

Depending on the condition you may be able to find the original colors underneath the dash for the gray and like Richard L said the hard parts were green. I would maybe look over the hard parts to see if you could find any bit of green. This is the case with my to-35 as it got repainted but you can still find the original colors. Best of luck with your new tractor.

I forgot to add one way to tell if it has live pto is to see how many pto options are one the left hand side. If it has live pto there should be three options. I believe they are engine pto,no pto, and ground pto. Live pto models are called deluxe models and non live pto models are call specials. Specials i believe only have pto and non pto.
