It is for rocker arm oil................ in reply to EDENROZ, 02-08-2010 14:14:23
as Jerry said in the earlier post. It is not OEM, but is the fix for a clogged oil passageway to the rockers. The hole in the back of the head feeds the oil to the rockers. I have done the same thing to my TO 35. If you are taking the motor down, I would suggest you repair the problem. If not, just be sure the rockers are getting sufficient oil, and go with it. Ron

Do you have any suggestions on how to open up this oil passage way. On page 68, fig.141 of the dealer shop manual, it shows the oil flow going up from the end bearing. Will this bearing get enough oil with the setup that I have. Can I just use it as is. I hate the idea of the motor getting trashed.

Thre oil for the rockers on the OEM set up comes from a drilled passage at the rear base of the rocker support boss. The oil coms from from the rear cam bearing oil supply. It gets clogged so the normal proceedure would be to unclog it with an appropriate sized metal brush or a piece of wire. The problem is that you push the debris down toward the cam bearing and it has no place to go. So to clear it out, you"d have to remove the cam. The work around is to put an oil suppy to the rocker from the oil pressure gauge connection. I"ll bett there is addtional tubing under the rocker cover that puts the oil in the rocker tube.
