Hi, in repairing my front support, the holes where the pin goes seem to be egg shaped some; will it be OK to go with some looseness where the pin fits or do these areas need to be tight? I have a new pin and I put a new bushing in the axle. Thanks. |

I had to repair the front support on my TO-35. You can block the tractor up and remove the support fairly easy. I am fourtunate to have a friend who is a machinist, he welded the worn area up and cut it back to the proper size hole. If you choose to do this be sure to find an experianced welder to do the job. He must use the correct rod (7018 I think) and not get it to hot and blow the whole thing out. It is difficult to weld as it is cast, but it is possable. Any machine shop should be able to re cut the hole for you for a reasonable price. Ben

The hole needs to be a good fit around the Pin or you might as well not change the Pin. When the Pin is worn and slack, the axle begins to twist, with the front wheels trying to go further back, when it does this it loads the Radius rods and that is why you often see then bent up-wards in the middle. When they do this it changes the Castor angle on the steering, it makes it hard to steer and the front wheels will "shimmy" if you try to run in top gear..John

Ok, I see your point. I will get someone to repair this to tighten it up some. At least my radius arms were not badly bent as some I have seen were Do you have a photo of the fan shroud? I bought a used one as mine was missing. It has a couple of dimples around the edge, and I can't tell if ther are supposed ot be there to clear parts (generator, etc) or if someone put them there because they were too lazy to remove it to make a repair, and I need to straighten it. Thanks for all the great help! Randy

Here are some pictures of the fan shroud on my TO30, which would be the same as a TO20. I also had to have my front axle support welded and bored out to get the new pivot pin to fit correctly again. Dan

Sorry I don't have any pictures that show the edge of the shroud all around. Maybe it is the same as the TE20 types where they had two "dimples" to get the Fan Belt off, on some the had a removable plate, but similar idea perhaps....John
