I have the earlier TED20 and all I needed was the Over run clutch. This allows the PTO to drive the brush hog but when you put in the clutch the brush hog spins but the ORC clicks and the PTO stays still. Hope that helps.

i have the to30 with pto.the tow truck driver who hauled it home for me said the bushhog spinning would push the tractor even if clutch was depressed he said i would need to shift to neutral.then he said i could buy the orc to solve this problem.i think i already have ths on the tractor, reason i think this is with tractor off i engage pto i can spin bushhoh one way and drive shaft clicks when i try the other way it tries to push the tractor.

That is the way it works. If it drives the tractor both ways you need an orc. Without it you will drive up a tree or pole sometime. Not fun!

ORCs do wear out sometimes. Yours may not be working properly.

You don't give much info, but it seems like you need an Over-run Clutch on the PTO shaft. They have them at this site, see the parts section and look under miscellaneous parts, then scroll down to PTO. Ask your local tractor dealer or whoever supplied the Hog...John

I think what you are looking for is a live power take off. Ya got to buy a tractor with this option built in. If you could invent a drop in live pto, or drop in power steering, you would be a millionaire. The only way to brushog without live pto is to think 50 feet head of the job, get the momentum going a minute before you start cutting thick stuff. Then, what Phil is talking about will help you stop safely- or safer... good luck, be careful.

Re: bush hog danger in reply to millsroofing, 09-25-2009 07:23:02

The over running clutch, ORC, comes in two forms: the type that has a pin that goes through the PTO shaft, and the type that has a ring that you pull back and then slide it on and clamp. They run $50-80. Tractor Supply, Agri Supply, and others have them. The benefit is that when you depress the clutch, the bush hog does not continue to push the tractor through the drive train. Not sure what tractor you have, or if that helps answer your question.
