O.K. my TE-20 still has a miss when running, rebuilt the carb, new points condenser, played with timing, ran better but still not quite running right. There were brand new plugs, wires cap rotor when purchased.I know there is a charging issue (working on that) removed the spark plugs #1,2 & 4 had carbon deposits but plug #3 clean as new, must be a bad wire, so new metallic wires, ran the same.Sparking o.k. removed plug #3 again and put my thumb over hole and cranked engine, found suction but no compression (verified by other cylinders) still in Rookie mode thinking Valves???

Thanks, I guess now is a good time to read up on the valve section in the manual. Maybe even add a compression tester to my meager arsonal of tools. I haven't even removed the generator as of yet JMOR. When I do I'll be sure to post what I find. Just happy to be getting closer to a good running tractor.

Most likely a burned exhaust valve. You can run a compresion check to verify what you all ready suspect. It"s important on these Continentals to run a little on the rich side to take advantage of charge cooling from fuel evaporation. The book says no less then one full turn out on the power jet, so remember that when you get it put back together.

A vacuum gauge will probably show you that. I would also expect to hear it at intake or exhaust.

By the way were you ever able to identify whether or not the markings on the gen terminals were correct or not & any info on what looks like a terminal on the rear end plate?
