What you linked to is my picture... and if you had copied what I said, your post would have made a lot more sense.. First the picture: (Ford left - Ferguson right)

Your transmission is the Ford version. If you say that the transmission that you have came out of TO-30, that is entirely possible. The Ford version of the trans would go in a Ferguson (TO-20 or TO-30)as well as the Ford but as I said, you had to give up the gear shift start feature. The Ferguson version (which has a different casting on the top and some additional machining) was to preserve this feature. However, I am reasonably certain that an inventive person could come up with some custom linkage that would restore that feature if they wanted it... even using the Ford version.. Jim

My previsous picture is a collage of three pictures that I put together from individual pictures that were provided for me by John Smith when we were trying to understand these differences. (I eventually bought my Sherman from him.) His site link is below. He is the popular expert on Sherman transmissions at the Ford N Forum. Here is another picture of the Ford Version from his site. It looks like yours.
