I've gone thru all 12 pages of forum and can't find anyone one wanting imfo on O.D. units. I have one to put in a TO-30 and would like imfo on if it is OK and if I can get parts ( seals- bearings - part Etc. ) and what web site to get them from. The main shaft seems loose and I know it is a sealed unit. Can someone HELP !

I recently installed a Ford Sherman step up unit into a TO 30. Had to make some modifications to transmission case. Also I made some changes to clutch cross shaft. Had no problem with the starter linkage. It really wasn't that much extra work

Bill,
I told Paul about your Sherman endevor. He would like to have some photos and an account of it to put in the Furrows.

we have one in my dads old TO-30 been in there sience he got the tractor in the late 70"s and never gave a bit of trouble... been through 3 engines 1st one bad oil presure and last two been cracked blocks.. geting ready to totaly re do the tractor and looking like the only option is to measure the seals and bearings then go to a specialty store to look them up..

Did you checkout John Smith's site?... He doesn't advertise that he sells parts, but I know he can get them because he rebuilds and sells Sherman Transmissions... You may want to contact him. His link is below...

Also, just as a matter of interest, Sherman "combo" transmissions that were made for the Ford and not specifically for the Ferguson will have interference with the gearshift starter linkage. You will have to either give up this feature or provide another work around solution... The picture above shows the factory differences between the Ford parts (on the left) and the Ferguson parts (on the right) that was made to preserve this feature...I don't know if this was the same issue for the step-up transmissions.. and I know that there have been plenty of the Ford versions that have been adapted to the Fergusons.... usually by giving up the gearshift start feature.... Jim

Thanks to all for the replies. I don't feel quite so nervous about my purchase of the OD unit now! The smith web page helped alot. As to the difference in the unit from fergy / to 8n I'm not sure yet. still hoping for a shiny TO-30 in the spring that's fast!!!!! THANKS AGAIN
