I bought a 1950 to30 and have been using it to plow snow. I decided to replace the brakes which is needed. I took off the drum and found lots of crud, grime, dirt, and oily greasy mess. I cleaned this all up but afraid a axle seal could be leaking. Of course I have no signs of leakage now and I have no idea how long ago this was pulled apart before me. How can I tell if seals are leaking? Is there a way? Or put everything back together and run it awhile then dismantle and check it? |

| A TO30 has both an inner and outer seal. While you have it tore apart you could try replacing the inner seal in the trumpet housing, and install a sure seal on the outer bearing rather than cutting the collar, removing the bearing and replacing the original outer seal. |

| | if seals are leaking there should be oil coming out by the brakes. You might want to check the serial number as the first TO 30 was built in 1951. <----- look under serial numbers
