Jason S. 01-03-2013 06:12:43 174.252.153.231 Report to Moderator	In my search for coulters for my Massey #62 I came across one of the old Ferguson disk plows. This one seems to be complete, even the kick stand is still there. This one has the straight tube frame. I know it depends on how bad the blades are worn down but if they are close to their original diameter, how deep will they dig? Are the comparable to a 14" or 16" moldboard plow? Do they pull any easier than a moldboard plow? Lastly, how do they fare on hillsides? Which I know there isn"t many one way plows that do great on hill sides but I didn"t know if the disk plows were any worse or better because I have no experience using one of these. I am seriously considering buying this plow though. Sorry for so many questions I"m just trying to make an educated decision. Thank you for all your help. [Reply]   [No Email]

If it is complete and unworn the furrow wheel will guide it in a straight line without too much trouble. They are very good in stony or rocky ground or where there are lots of tree roots as they just ride over the top of the obstruction. John(UK) [Reply]  [No Email]

maxwell99 01-03-2013 09:52:23 208.78.250.177 Report to Moderator	Re: Ferguson Disk plow questions. in reply to Jason S., 01-03-2013 06:12:43   Jason, my friend and i have two fergy disc plows, the bent tube MF 64 is more rare the straight tube plow is an older Ferguson. we live about 15 miles apart and got tired of loading the plow up and moving it, as a disk plow is somewhat more unstabe, as it can roll around on those big disk. we ran across another one sitting in the fence row covered with vines and we bought it, so, no more loading and moving of disc plows for us. I have enjoyed using the disc plow, the key to making a disc plow work and run straight is the condition of the rear coulter blade. This blade is like the counter blance or guide for the plow. it must be in excellent shape and adjusted properly or the old plow will pull to the left side. I replaced the rear guide blade on both of our plows. I always use a stabilizer (chain) on the right side of the plow to insure the plow cannot go too far to the left and tear up my lift arms. Good luck with the plow, note to file: turn the plow over or lift it up and check the condition of those big roller bearing in each plow, if they are ruined that might be a deal breaker, all or ours were good. I've been looking for almost a year now for those brackets. I can't even find a pic of the brackets to make a set from. What is a reasonable price for one of those Ferguson disk plows in good shape? Before the great financial crisis I purchased a straight disc plough from out of hedge storage for NZ$20, and at the same time one sold for auction in the UK for approximately 4200 pounds. Harry Ferguson shipped his products round the world. Market values will vary considerably. For collectors of old farm equipment I suggest you buy smart and sell generously and enjoy the implements whilst they are in your stewardship. [Reply]  [No Email]

One is a massey harris bent tube 2 disk plow . It needs some parts. The other is a Ferguson 3 disk plow, straight tube with a pig tail on the back that hold the 3rd disk and the tail wheel. Its a P-AO-21. I may know of another but I'm keeping it on the down low until I check it out. [Reply]  [No Email]
