Inno 12-20-2012 20:50:26 70.49.136.91 Report to Moderator	Finally got some time to spend in the shop this evening. Finished up cleaning the throttle/governor linkage and adjusted as per the book, put in the ignition tune up kit, put in a new starter, solenoid and a whole bunch of new wiring to the above mentioned parts, took float bowl off and re-set float (might have been a little low thus shutting off fuel too soon). Set the gas tank on a stand beside it and hooked 'er up. Cranked it over a bit and sure enough, it fired up........but the chirping noise, which was why I took the top end apart in the first place, is STILL THERE. I thought for sure I had a leak between 2 and 3 cylinder at the head gasket..........Ok so it runs a bit better now and I'm sure it benefited from a thorough cleaning etc. but I'm not real happy about the chirp. It's almost got me wondering if there's something inside the muffler that's causing more of a whistle than a chirp........I think maybe I'll take the muffler off and put on the one that was savagely ripped off the 202 before converting it to a vertical exhaust. At this point I'm at a loss to try and explain it. Either way, I'm glad I took the top end apart and got things cleaned up and some leaks addressed etc. and once I get the cooling system back together and run her up to temp. I can get the carb adjusted properly and hopefully..........hopefully the chirp is all in the exhaust. sigh :? [Reply]   [No Email]

I'll have a look at the breather tube, it is a bit rusted on the end and possibly a little bent but I don't think it's in the shape of a whistle.   [Reply]  [No Email]

I am thinking at some point I should probably look at doing the whole engine, we'll see how much oil it's burning.......and how much I care about that. For now I'll live with the chirp, unless it's muffler related in which case it will be fixed then take it as it comes. I think for now I've slowed down/stopped any of the major oil leaks so at least I can say I've accomplished something for all the time spent.   [Reply]  [No Email]

Years ago I had a IH diesel that had a hydro so loud I actually couldn't hear anything else. The neighbor loved this tractor more than I did. It had a chirp in the exhaust too. It never bothered me, it bothered him. they tore it appart atleast twice, bought another farmall to get suspicious parts replaced, did the valves twice....then because the donor was sitting so long? it ended up stripping out a fuel injector pump and the whole contents of the timing cover... so they put all my original parts back on, and it is still running today... with a funny little chirp...   [Reply]  [No Email]

Sounds like a sparrow for sure, if it is it's the toughest bird I've ever heard of! :lol: Air intake leak is possible I suppose but I went over it pretty carefully when I had it off.
