Thank you for that!....There is one other thing to remember about these starters on a TEA. The 6 volt starters are as discussed, but the V volt starters are very long on the Bendix drive and wont fit, as the hole for the starter in the engine rear mounting and the transmission housing is also different to accommodate the extra long starter. If you want to change the original engine from a 6 volt tractor into what was a 12 volt tractor from new you can't do it easily. You need a 12 volt starter that is similar to the 6 volt but with the mounting that will fit on the rear of the Engine Block. Where we use the 6 volt starter when we convert to 12 volt wont work because of the difference in the Starter mounting on the engine
Just to clear up any doubt there could be, you can change a 6 volt tractor engine into a 12 volt tractor if you use the original type (or pattern) of starter and the Flywheel from the 6 volt Engine on the 12 volt engine. The size of the Starter mounting is never given a thought. So if you need to change engines from 6 volt to 12 volt tractor always check the starter mounting and if the transmission housing has provision for the extra long Bendix of the Starter. The Starter on a TEA that has been 12 volts from new, engages the flywheel from the rear not the front like most starters do..John(UK)...fergusontractors@hotmail.com
