Hi, I am from Cook, MN (90 miles N. of Duluth, MN) and am helping the widow of my mentor. He purchased the following tractor about 2 yrs ago out in Washington state, and now his wife is looking to sell it. (he bought it as a project-something about it being a rare find?) John Deere 1953 Model 40 Standard Serial # 61076 Block casting # M64-T Clutch housing # M1782-T Rearend casting # M2495-T Purchased for $1,000. Parts purchased: Front tires: $148.89 Hood $422.00 Gauges $147.00 Misc. $167.89 Rims $166.00 Steering components ?????? Seat ?????? Other parts ?????? (blade for 3 pt hitch) Total? $2,051.78(?) There is a lot of small items still in the JD packaging, and some of the stuff you see here is already on the tractor. The radiator is off, as well as hood. there is a new battery box already installed. front tires (new) are on it, and it can be pulled onto a trailer. He had it running, but I could not get it to turn over, so don't know if it has seized. It has been parked in his heated garage for the past 2 years, so I know it didn't get moisture? I need some help in selling this, (I know NOTHING about tractors!) so any advice? Pete Niska Cook, mn |

| Larry I just noticed your request. I live in I Falls and we are traveling to the twin cities today.(6-25-10) My son and have 2 cyl. JD's ranging from farm use to restoring. We will be making a stop at the McDonalds for a cup of coffee, around noon. My cell phone is 1-218-240-1683 and if fairly close to town, we could take a look and offer some pointers. Pete gave you good information |
