adjusted valves today.still have oil comeing out intake.sucks and blows both when cranking.ready to give up and sell as is.cant find anyone to help me with it.

Sounds like a valve is not closing. Did you turn
it over and watch the valve action? All like
valves (intake or exhaust) should come back to the
same height.

Leave the air cleaner oil cup off when first
trying to start it. Saves the oily mess.

Do you have spark? Do you have gas to the
cylinders (wet spark plugs)?

Where are you in Iowa?

tractor at Dysart iowa.didnt think to to take oil bath or intake tube off.valves look like their all moveing the same. course my concentration and eye sight not worth a dam since heart attack almost three years ago.thanks

also not getting fuel to cylinders.starting to wonder if I get cam gear one tooth off.remember having trouble seeing that day.dont have strength to tear down again.

I keep a goober-welded drain plug hung up in the barn to remind me; NEVER GIVE UP!
I could not get tranny drain plug out, and it HAD to come out, I stripped it, and welded a nut and broke, welded a nut and broke it, and it HAD to come out. Took three days of welding, brekaing trying,e tc. and one fine afternoon it unthreaded out just a slick as you please. Do NOT give up.

to do a quick down and dirty check to see if the valves are closing, pull the air cleaner tube off, pull the spark plugs, and then bump the motor over till the valves close on number 1 cylinder. shoot some compressed air in the spark plug hole and listen for leakage thru the intake and muffler, check each cylinder the same way. if you have a bad valve, that will show which cylinder has the problem.

Blowing out the intake is a sure sign of a stuck/sticking valve. The only other possible way pressure can get into the intake would be the cam timing so far off that the intake valves are open on the up stroke of the piston. (not likely if some suction is felt. If you are not comfortable doing a leakdown test (putting air pressure into each cylinder, one at a time) you might need to get help.
I recommend just a bit more analysis before swapping that horse for a more "ready to go" animal. Jim

as gonna sell it when i got it running, not sure im strong enough to drive it anymore.soon wont have place for it.It was running perfect when cam-oil pump gear went bad.was discing with 16ft disc.4th gear didn't even know it was back there.

With that info I will suggest a cam gear has broken. That is a much more serious issue. Checking the valve timing is not hard, (if the distributor timing is as it was, putting the engine on TDC #1 and looking to see where the rotor is pointing will be definitive. If it is not at #1 plug terminal, The cam gear is wasted. Jim

just changed camshaft, gear like new.havent run it yet since.distributor timed and turns like it should.maybe go try again in a couple days if I get in the mood.since dec its 10 miles away instead of out the back door.i think I have a buyer if I get it running.one guy was gonna do the work for me reasonable but got too busy, another wanted $100.00 a hour.

Does it have a magneto? If so, it could be 180 degrees out of
time. When that happens it will blow the air cleaner oil out of
the intake pipe. On the mag, cam only has two lobes with 2:1
gears before rotor. To correct, remove mag, rotate drive 1/2
turn and reinstall.

It sounds like the ignition or camshaft could be out of time. Have you checked the compression on multiple cylinders to verify the camshaft is timed right?

Did you replace the bad gear and make sure the timing marks were all lined up if not your cam is out of time and the engine will nevr start or run. You said the gear went out but didnt say if it has been replaced.

it was the oil pump drive gear that broke and teeth on cam that drives oil pump that went bad..not getting fuel to cylinders.guess ill take carb apart and check it.been over a month since ive went up to work on it.probably sell as is don't feel like working on it anymore.
