656 gas engine oil

Been looking around for engine oil for this tractor. There are no IH dealers close, but I can get Cenex oil and have used that in all my equipment for years. In a 30 wt oil I can get either %.05 ash oil or %0 ash oil. Which would you all figure would be best, or does it have to be IH low ash?? Thanks

Does not have to be IH as long as it is low ash. I don't remember the percentages...I run Rotella 15w-40 diesel oil in all my tractors. Diesel oils have lower ash contents.

The following is an Email from Shell Oil to Me, followed by my original question to them.

Dear Sir,

The information we have for the Farmall 706 (gasoline) indicates it
called for an API SF low ash oil (max 0.5% ) for viscosity ranges of
10w, 30w, and 5w-30. No information on higher viscosity ranges is
listed in our reference. Rotella T 15w-40 meets API SM
specifications for gasoline engines, which covers API SF, but has a
maximum ash content of 1%.

Best Regards,

Shell Technical
