Farmall 230 play in steering

I recently acquired a Farmall 230 it is fun to drive but has too much play in the steering. The play seems more in the gear box than in the shafts and joints. I have a book ordered but wanted practical information from the experts (you guys and gals) on the procedure to tighten it up. I have done it on an M but this system is different as it is all under the radiator vs being up on top. Help me if you can and as always thanks for all the great help you pass out to those of us who need it.

I think there is a bearing kit you can buy, from Steiners catalog , i have never done one, but pretty sure there one there to get it back in shape.

I think there's a key in the shaft at the bolster I have seen them worn and cause slack ?

You need to tear it down as there are bearings bushings and the key all can lead to play.

Handiest thing to start off, I finally figured out, is to have somebody else sit in seat and turn wheel back and forth, as you trouble-shoot it. Obvious, but took me a while to figure this out.
