Farmall 140 Off-set PTO

I have recently converted my 140 from one-pt to three -pt. Want to use a rear mower. What are the concerns with the off-set PTO? Will a special pto shaft be needed or will a standard PTO shaft articulate enough to accomadate the mower? Recommendations on size of mower?

The shaft should be fine, I used a pull behind 4' brush hog with my A. also are you talking a brush mower or finish mower? Brush I would say 4' and finish 5' or more. Depends on your exact conditions of course too.

Probably a bush hog. Recently planted 33 acrea of long leaf pines and I want to mow between the rows set at 10 feet apart. Land previously for cultivation of winter heat, peanuts, cotton and soy beans on rotation. Land is faily smooth and a finish mower set high might work OK. Thank you for your prompt reply

Id go with the brush, they take less power (size vs size) to run, cheaper to buy, and you will not be working the tractor as much. A sharp hog mowed at timely intervals will result in a nice finished cut. 33 acres of pines is sure going to result in whole lota set time. We mow around 5 acres of X-Mas trees with the kids and it keeps them busy. (mostly using walk behinds in this case though)

The PTO shaft universal joints will be fine with the offset PTO.
You don't need anything special. That is as long as none of
the mounting brackets interfere with the shaft. Mowing 33
acres of trees set on 10 ft centers is gonna take a long time. I
mow 2 1/2 acres of trees set on 12 ft centers using a 5 ft
Woods mower. It takes me about an hour to do it running in
second gear. I do have to contend with some hillside terrain
and rock out croppings.

I am going to recommend a belly mount mower as it
will be easier to operate and easier to get close to
but not run over your trees , I have a 4' that I
pull under a super A if interested.

Do you have pullys and belts? Conditions and price. My 140 does not have center hydrulics. Your location
