IH 886 info

Looking for opinions on an 886 , 4500 hrs,good
rubber,runs well , haven't drove yet . Has cab , no
doors. Asking $6900. Have heard bad about the
transmission s in these . Any input appreciated.

I've had a couple. Have one now. I like'em. Transmissions are the same as all of the 66 and 86 tractors as far as I know. The problem is the shifters on the early models stick out sorta in the way when you enter and exit the cab. Early ones had a D360 engine and later models had the D358 german diesel. My first one was the 358, the one I have now has the 360 soon to have a DT414.

If it starts and runs good and the hours are not too bad? No doors so that removes one major issue people complain about in the 86 series. Folks don't like the shifter position for getting in and out. I don't have a big caboose so it doesn't trouble me. I have a 1586 and I really like it. Thinking I would try to negotiate that down a bit but, if it is a good one it is a lot of HP for the money. I have bought more than a couple used tractors. A good one is worth a little extra.
