Farmall M Paper Belt Pulley Dressing?

I have a 1951 Farmall "M" with a "Paper" Belt Pulley. Should I use any kind of dressing on the Pulley, preiodically, to help preserve it? If so, what kind do you recommend? Thanks for any advise!

I use shellac. It soaks in nice and tends to firm up soft paper. I would not recommend linseed as it is a vegetable oil and will promote mildew.

Shellac is good, I also like urethane varnish (oil based) cut 50% with laquer thinner on 3 coats that sink in, then a coat at full strength to seal the near surface paper. Sanding will take off the glaze of the finish, or use satin finish product. Jim

So far I got a quart of polyurethane varnish on this one and think it could suck up another quart.

Since all of ours are old and dark. I have been applying solid shoe polish to them. They of course come out black but look pretty good.

saddle soap is what i used on mine by my wifes suggestion, worked very well ,protects from weather & getting rotten , looks original not glossy
