Farmall 806 Help

I have a farmall 806 that had a broken camshaft. Have replaced the cam and per book I was using, lined up the timing marks on cam gear, crankshaft gear, and idler gear. Put it all back together and won't start. Get a little smoke out of stack and turns over good, but won't crank. Seems like a fuel issue, but good fuel flow through pump. Did I miss a critical step in timing like having piston on TDC or something like that????

#1 piston should be at 6*BTDC(I think-book is in
shop). The injection pump must be 'timed' within
itself. Remove the small plate on the side(2
screws)There you will see two 'disks' there will be
a mark on both of them. The marks must line up.Kind
of the same principle of timeing a distributor to a
gas engine.

Do I get to 6* BTDC by the marks on the flywheel? And just curious, I didn't get into the fuel pump at all. Wouldn't it still be in time or has the camshaft replacement effected timing? Sorry maybe a dumb question.

the camshaft has to be timed to the crankshaft. then the injection pump gear has to be timed to the camshaft gear. the static timing is then adjusted by the injection pump gear having slotted holes to attach to the injection pump. and the exact timing spec depends on which injection pump you have.

I've never worked on an 806, but from what you've given us, I believe it's possible the injector pump is 180 degrees out of time.

I am very curious where did the cam break at,Its a 361 diesel right ? Mine is 48 yrs old, changed bearings, 2 times, and 1 keeper came out of the valves once.

It broke just behind the gear. There is an oil passage there in the cam and it split right through it. There were three bent pushrods but no other damage.

Better do a close inspection of the crankshaft damper pulley. When the rubber starts to fail it usually takes out the camshaft gear.
