FARMALL 140 HELP

I ordered and new shutoff switch from Stiener tractor parts Part # IHS-382 just like the one that came off the tractor, put it on, and when you start the tractor and you want to cut it off push in switch and it keeps on running. I also would like to say I rewired the tractor because wires where looking rear bad (cracked).the switch that was on the Tractor(old one ) was doing the same thing as new one, could the new switch be bad or have I got something wired wrong. (Going to one side of the switch is wire running from starter and other side is going to the coil).

Do you have a diode wired into the system? If not the alternator will back feed and keep power going to the coil.

Look at Bob M's wiring diagram, and confirm you have it wired accordingly.

Odds are you wired the tractor up so that the alternator is "backfeeding" to the ignition coil even with the switch off.

A common mistake is to connect the "excite" wire for the alternator to the + side of the coil, or the ignition switch itself, without a diode to block electricity returning down the excite wire back to the coil.
