Saginaw hitch on a 460U?

Has anyone mounted a Saginaw 3pt hitch on a 460 utility? I own a large 3pt grooming mower and the 460 seems like the "right size" tractor for me. As I look at other IH utility tractors with factory 3pt hitches, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to limit the hitch sway on the factory hitches. I.E. my 544 utility has large chain links to limit the sway, they aren't very effective. It sways several inches each way unless the arms are spread-eagle. --Lee

Mount two chains between the arms in an X pattern.Put a turnbuckle on one end of each chain.Take up the slack, there will be no sway. Be careful that the chains do not interfere with the PTO.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think any 460U tractors had factory 3-pt hitches?? I have a spare Saginaw and wonder if I buy a 460U, whether my Saginaw will work on it? (after removing the 2pt from the 460U)

Not to scare you away from that tractor but if it has power steering double check that steering box for any leaks or looseness. Hopefully that tractor hasn't had a loader on it. just my .02

Leave the 2 point on it. Get the 3 point conversion kit. The kit consists of 2 lift arms that slip into the fast hitch, and a top link with bracket that bolts to the tractor.

Rusty, I have two other tractors with fast hitches and have a set of 3-pt adapters, I absolutely hate them. I would prefer the Saginaw 3pt for daily use, and I have a spare Saginaw setting in the barn. Really just wonder if my Saginaw would fit on the 460U with the 2pt removed.

I once owned an 856 with the 2 point fast hitch. I put the 3 point adapter on it. I loved it.

Rusty, glad you enjoyed the adapter on your 856, but I only really wondered whether the Saginaw will fit on a 460U.

What did the Saginaw come off of? If the 460 utility had the option of a standard drawbar that fastens to the rear axle housings, kind of like an H or M, then the Saginaw probably could be made to fit.

AFAIK, the axle housings on the 460U are basically the same as the 460 Farmall. The Saginaw should mount right up. Whether it clears the ground or not is a whole other question.

Rusty, I have a Speeco or similar that was removed from an MD and a Saginaw from a Super M. I don't have a 460U to look at but it sounds like it might work.
