M Transmission question

I am working on replacing transmission gears on an M. I have a parts catelog for an H model. The exploded diagrams look identical as far as the parts I need to replace in the gearing. So my question is, are the transmission gears the same in an M as an H?

No! While they look identical, virtually every component inside an M transmission is bigger than in an H.

Everything in the trans of an M is bigger than the same part in an H. NOTHING except some hardware would interchange.

And the lower trans shaft and gears on an M are splined while the gears and shaft on the H are just keyed.

FYI M and SM IH counter shafts are keyed and the gears pressed on or off. SMTA was the first splined countershaft in that series.

Go to Messick's.com and type in Farmall m and you will have a parts catalog for your tractor. That site always works for me but the CASEIH site has same catalog but does not always work. I don't know where you are but I have some M gears up here in Minn.
