Farmall H 12 volt coil

Hello, my son has a 1949 H that has been converted to 12 volt. It appears to use a 12 volt Ford car coil. It still uses a resistor block ahead of the coil. Is this necessary when the coil is already 12 volt?.
Thanks, YVC

That would depend upon the resistance of that particular coil's primary windings.

In ball-park figures, if primary resistance is 1.5 to 2 Ohms, it NEEDS the resistor. If primary resistance in in the 3 to 4 Ohms range, a resistance likely ISN'T needed.
