todays temp

Hey guys - 2 degrees at the moment just west of Rochester NY and going down.Found out my H doesn't have a battery that likes these kinds of temperatures. What's the temp where you live. I suspect we are the "warm spot" in the northeast!

right now we're at a balmy 14 above, projected to go down to -7 tonight with wind chills down to around -20. I can't do anything with tractors these days. Bruce, Ulster Co. NY

Here on the Chautauqua Ridge, our "weather wall" said it bottomed out at -13 overnite, current high of -3, but that's to be taken with a grain of salt - puddles freeze when it says "34".

And to keep it tractor related, I'm sure the SA will groan a bit, but having converted it to 12v with an alternator last fall, and with a freshly rebuilt starter, it will start, and run, and move snow. It has to.

Just for the record, as some folks blame starter failures on 12v conversions, I spent most of the past year hand cranking while it was still 6v because the bendix was shot. It just gets really hard to hand crank when it gets in the teens, or less. The rebuild has 12v field coils installed.

Fell to -7 here in Chili NY overnite. At 11 M Sunday it's now up to a "balmy" 0.

My Super M always starts reliably in these temps and even colder. But there's no way I want to be out running it(!)

Ok Boler, you get the prize for the moment.

An update: The SA started after a bit of cranking. My 15 year old car (with most of the electronic fuel metering then known to man) was parked in the shade and never got any solar gain this morning. It coughed occasionally until it ground down. It got a jump from the SA and rolled until it got enough heat in enough cylinders to run. The wife's Toyota, parked where it got some sun, said temp was -6 when the 'weather wall' said all of -1. It also started.

Years ago I spent some winter time in AK, and had a pickup with a 283 GM motor, that would start (without a block heater), at -40 or so. Not that it liked it, but it did.

Would be a good day to set the low temperature injection settings on MH44 EFI, but do not want to go out and do it.

But just think: once it's done, it's done, and you'll have a tractor you can do the Christmas parade with in North Pole AK.

BTW, it's currently +10 there, -15 here.

Northeast Arkansas is about 20 or so right now. Getting our first snow of the year. This is cold for us. Both farmalls of mine will fire right up if I wanted em to. I do t wanna be out there now though.

Zach,
We had -8 to -7 all day with heavy wind. Wind chills reported nationally for our area were -30 to -25.

If we had gotten more snow, our drifts would be hard to see over from the 56 series tractor seat.

Road intersections are real bad with no sight distance.

Northern Schoharie County, New York.
