Don't know what your reference to 282 is here, but an I head engine is valve in head, L head is valve in block engine.

what I am looking at is a 560 has a I head and a 660 has a L head
that is what I want to know the difference is and can I put a 660
engine in a 560

The only I and L that I know of on one of those engines would be a casting date , not a part number. The 660 engine will fit but might require some changing of mounting hardware, not sure of that.

The heads are the same on a 560 and 660 with a D282 engine. If I remember correct the early D282's had smaller valves than the later ones. The only thing is that the injector pump on a 660 has the RPM's turned up to around 22 or 2300 RPM's and the 560 is set around 1800 RPM. That is how they get a little more hp out of the 660 and the transmission was geared lower than the 560. I don't know where you are getting a I head and L head? Are you looking at a casting letter on the head? Also the head on a D301 used on the 715 combines uses the same head as the D282. The 560 & 660 engines will interchange. Just the injector pumps set at different RPM's

yes, its exactly the same engine. difference is in pump setting, 560=1800 rpm. 660=2400 rpm.
