Super vs Regular Farmall A

What is the difference between a regular A and Super A?? Is there any quick way to tell the difference by visual inspection??

ok, this one has super A decals, but no hydraulic system, is I assume it is a A and not a super

Look for the SN plate.It is under the seat.

The FAA prefix did not change for the Super A.

Ya the big difference is the hyd system. The A did not have hyds and the Super A does. But me I own the one and only BA

If the serial number is greater that FAA 250000 it is a Farmall Super A, otherwise a standard Farmall A

No you dont i made one 15yrs ago with a Woods 59 mower mows 3A and does just fine.

Its possible that it never had a hy system from the factory. Seen a C that way one time at a show no hy system.

Serial number is the best way to tell. 250001 and above is a Super A.

The hydraulic system under the gas tank is a sure sign of a Super A, but...

While rare, I believe it was possible to get a Super A without a hydraulic system, or it could have been removed by a previous owner for some reason.

Ah but does it have a B front half and the A back half not just a front pedestal of the B??? My BA is in fact half B half A

Except for the pedestal and steering parts, everything from the front of the transmission forward on an A and B are identical. If you build something out or 2 junk piles, it doesn't really matter which of the 2 piles an individual part comes from.

Did they ever go to the 123motor with water pump?

The last few Super As in 1954 had the 123 with a water pump. These are usually referred to as Super A1. All earlier Supers had the 113 and no water pump similar to the A/B.

Yes as in true half and half or just the pedestal????????????????? As I said mine is a true half and half machine. I built it so I could use the sickle mower that came with the broken A and I have since not used my hay-bine to mow with since I built it
