1586 Cab Magnetic Switch

Still sorting out my old 1586, which when it
came to me it had been partially cannibalized,
thus a lot of unknowns in putting it back
right. I am looking at the factory wiring
diagrams concerning the instrument panel, and I
find that near the main fuse block there is
listed a "cab magnetic switch" that has a light
blue with black tracer wire coming from the key
switch coming into it, and going out from it a
wire going to another part of the fuse block
and one to a 30 amp circuit breaker. Can
someone describe to me what this "cab magnetic
switch" is, exactly? As I said this tractor has
been partially cannibalized so I'm somewhat
flying blind in putting it back right. Thanks,
Hugh

It is a "constant duty" solenoid or relay that is energized when the key is switched "ON", and provides power for the cab fans and other accessories, so the ignition switch does not have to carry all that load.

If replacing it, be SURE to get an OEM unit or a the correct "constant duty" aftermarket unit, as a typical starter solenoid is not designed to be energized for hours and will soon get hot and fail.

Buy the case Ih brand one. I bought one from napa that was matched up and it failed shortly after. Paid for the expensive one that looked the same at case and it works now a year later good.
