This is Al71 I'm a new guy here and need some help.Ive been reading this column for months and really love it. I think it is a agreat idea. I am trying to figure how to mount a truck type snowplow on a Farmall H tractor with a wide front end. I started to build a frame that attaches near the rear axle and goes fwd to under the front axle and to a flat plate such as piece of 10 in x 30 in channel iron. How high off the ground should it be. Any help will be appreciated. I am a retired GM Michigander. THANKS Al71. Any Photos would great.

Years ago I built a mount for a truck type snow plow for an A/C C and I would think it could be worked out to work on most any tractor. I used that as a guide to make the one I did. I can not find the picture of the one I build or I would post them

I put a Fisher plow from a 73 F250 on my 4000 and I set the pivot pins at about the same height they were on the truck. I don't have a very good picture of it.

Google has a lot of pics. I would like to do this sometime as well. I would want framework going back to the rear axles for strength but that's just me.

Here is photo of snow plow on my I-6 International. This is a factory built snow plow. I think this could be adapted to go on your H. The snow plow is for sale. (Not the tractor) Email if you have interest.

Thanks to all of the folks who replied to my post about how to mount a truck plow on a tractor, the pictures say a thousand words. Thanks again. Al71

Here are pics of what I did w/ one on my 340. This is a factory Myer rig that was designed for a tractor (H, M, 300, 400, etc) with frame rails. I fabricated the channel iron rails on both sides, The 340 is a little narrower than the tractors with frame rails so I had to pad it out a little bit more where the plow frame part bolted to it. It was factory designed to bolt to the transmission tube in front of the axles.

I am happy with how it works. The only thing I wish is that it was 6" wider (and had a hydraulic angle control). With the tires set out a little bit for stability it will run on the plowed snow when the blade is angled.

The correct height for any truck plow is that which holds the A-frame level when the plow is on the ground. Any other height will cause one end of the plow to ride higher than the other when the plow is angled. This will cause premature wear of the cutting edge, and will also not scrape clean.
