Grinding C-221 Crank

Hey guys! I don't have the pan pulled off yet, but
everything is pointing towards bearings. If I do
have the crank ground, do I need to take the rods in
too??? Was hoping to have the crank ground and slap
it back together with new bearings. Really don't
want to remove the head and pistons if I don't have
too. Already a lot of work to remove front end and
split just to remove the crank. Just curious what
you would do. Thanks!!

If you have rod bearing problems like a spun insert, you will need the rod resized. At least check them all.

Its a good idea to have the big ends resized. I do this on every engine I rebuild. Plus you'll want to look at the pin bushings too. These engines are 50 years old, things tend to get a little out of round. It adds some expense but doing it twice isn't cheap either. Good luck
.

There was another guy with a different thread that had a rod knock and just changed one piston and maybe some of the bearings. He's back into his engine now. If you have bad crank bearings, then you certainly have other issues as well. I'd go through the engine if I was going to go to that much trouble and make sure to get it right the first time. I don't like doing a major repair and spending that money twice.
