Found a crack in M head.

Pulled the head off my 49 M last night. Was getting water in through the #3 cylinder. I didn't get a better measurement of war page, but it's around .017". I'm assuming that the crack can be welded by a machine shop.

Yes, there are shops that specialize in such things. Your local machine shop may not be able to do it, but they will know a shop that does. Personally, I would do the repairs, rather than taking a chance on a used head that might end up being in the same condition.

I personally would take the money that would be spent welding up that low compression head (determined by DSlater in your other post) and buy a gasoline style higher compression head.

DSlater knows his stuff on those old Farmalls.

Then spend the same money decking surface, valve job, and refurbing the gasoline only head. You end up with a better head this way and also one that has not been repaired for likely about the same money.

Now if you can do all the repairs yourself for free (I.e. welding up and decking the surface) only then would I consider repairing the head you have.

I would spend the money on getting a higher compression head that is not cracked, versus welding that one.

If you look between the valves you will see the crack in the head from the clubs M. Took it down to machine shop they found about 15 cracks in it

For what you will spend on fixing it, I'd buy the LP repo head offered by YT. I put one on my M. In my case, it wasn't much more for the new head than the cost to weld the old one, and I got new seats and guides too.
You will have to grind out the area around the push tubes, as there's a lot of casting flash there.
