A radiator screen

Working on 1945 A prepping it for painting it for painting in the spring.
It's the first tractor I worked over that6 did not have the grill all bashed in and the screen is galvanized quarter inch mesh, Is that original? If not what color should it be?
Thanks

I believe the correct mesh wire that was used was 5 squares to the inch which is currently available in several places that deals in IH parts for restorations. Someone along the way might have replaced the original with the 4 square to the inch which is readily available at the local hardware store. It was generally painted along with the tractor so it would have been red when new, Hal.

I forget the size of the mesh, but it is close to 1/4 inch and ok. IH installed the screen before painting and sprayed the whole thing, getting some paint on the radiator. I put the screen in the Super M I just finished after I painted the grill, I like the looks better than the other tractors I have done. So, it's your decision.

I agree with farmallhal...the original screens were 5 squares to the inch. But I admit most correct police are hardly ever sharp enough to notice if you have 4 to the inch.

I get them from Devon's tractor parts. I believe they are 4 per sq.
Most all are painted red. However, on my latest restoration I had it powder coated in a muted silver which is closest to its natural color and I think the contrast will look good.
I remember seeing some as I was growing up that were not painted against the red and looked good. If not coated in protectant screen will rust.

My mistake, it is five to the inch galvanized so
I'm sure it is original. I think I'll paint it silver, it is in good shape.
Thanks for the replies!
