How to clean oil/coolant out of engine block?

I'm taking my 49 M apart this weekend, it has coolant
in the oil. I'm hoping it's just the head gasket, my
uncle said he doesn't remember my Dad every having it
apart. What is the best way to get all the
emulsified oil out of it. I'm going to pull the pan
also and clean it out while it's not running.

I'm sure there are better methods but carb or brake cleaner and some elbow grease have done a fine enough job for me in the past.

If its the oil gallery, i wouldnt pressure wash it. Either get a sure shot sprayer from napa (its a one quart sprayer you fill and use an air hose to charge it). Or get a cheap paint gun, siphon style, and fill it with kerosene and spray down the inside of the engine. Kerosene cleans good, doesnt stink like diesel, and is a light oil so it wont hurt anything.

Like Mn mike said, carb cleaner and shop towels, whats in the crank, and other not seen places you can't get anyway. Clean what you can, use cheaper oil on startup, run till warmed up, then change to the regular oil and filter/.

Butyl Cellosolve. That is what IH recommended for cleaning up 300/400 series engines that had suffered engine oil cooler failures. Mix 50/50 with 30 weight engine oil and run for an hour no load making sure it reaches operating temperature. To clean the cooling system use automatic dish washer soap.

Butyl Cellosolve is (or was) one of the ingredients of Rislone engine cleaner. Chrysler also had an engine flush that contained it but the last time I checked with a dealer the parts man had no clue as to what I was asking about.

Hi I just did a Belarus like that. I used brake clean on what i could see. I had the rods out on this one to so the crank drained on it's own, while it was apart and turned over during the work.
I Then cleaned the oil filter( centrifugal wash out on that tractor) re assembled the motor put a cheap oil in and a small can and half of sea foam for oil amount . ran it for a while. then drained it and put the guys expensive winter oil in.
spoke to him last week and he said the new oils spotlessly clean after 30 hours running, no black or water contamination at all.
