C-123 Block Differences

Hey guys....I was looking at 2 different blocks. I had a spare engine block (don't know what it came from) and was going to use it in my Farmall 100 that had a "repaired" block. Look at the pictures attached and help me figure out what I have. Is this a Farmall 140 block (since the water pump was moved on those)?

Also, here are all of the numbers I could find on it. Haven't had a chance to look them up yet, but will start doing so after I post this.

Part Number: 3(8 or 6)7825R3
Casting Code: 2 14 (G or C)
Engine Serial Number: Seemed to be Blank but was dirty
Stamped as a C-123 Block

Thanks for the help!

Ok....so it looks like that on the Case/IH parts site the parts manual is listed for the Farmall 100, 130 and 140 tractors and looks to be mostly complete EXCEPT for the ENGINE BLOCK and related parts!! Why isn't the engine listed for any of these models?

Uggghhhhhh.....I need to call the Case/IH webmaster and let them know although they probably don't care.

Wow. That was some major repair work on the 100 block. Your lower picture looks like a 367825Rx block. R3 makes it newer than my book (9/64). With all the changes related to the water pump, I would be hesitant to try to backfit that block into a 100. It is doable, but I don't know what all you would have to change. To find the engine parts online, you may have to find a separate engine book for the C-123. Look for sections applicable to engine number 65,001 and above for the style of your second picture.

I hope you have the original main bearing caps.

(quoted from post at 22:41:36 02/06/15) Maybe it is a G, date code, so then it was made 2-14-71

Oh dang! I was thinking that "G" was 1961 and not 1971. But that would make it newer than Jim's book.

What I would like to know is that if the block is from a Farmall 140 because I thought those engines were the same (I've never had 1 apart to know there was a difference in blocks).........I guess you're prolly saying it could be back fit in a Farmall 100 but I'd need the parts to bolt on the block to convert it to the newer style water pump. ?? right?

I think G was '61. C was '57 then came around again in '79. You would need the 140 style water pump, lower elbow etc. Next you would probably run into problems connecting to the existing radiator, then who knows what else.

Ok.....I see. Yeah, basically when you hear of the engine being the "same" means they interchange wholly rather than building from bare blocks unless you have a complete replacement block with all bolt-on parts. Am I right in saying that?

"Same" is thrown around pretty loosely. Interchangeability is a lot looser idea than "same". Like an A versus a Super A. A lot of people say they are the same except the Super A has hydraulics. You start looking at the details and you find about1/3 the same and 2/3 interchangeable.

When you start looking at the C-123 engines, there is a big dividing line when they started building 140 and 240 tractors. A lot of stuff changed then. You can't even interchange the whole engine without complications.

Thanks Jim!

The engine in the tractors are listed separately from the tractor.

If you go to the CASE/IH parts site and search C-123 or C-60 or C-113 etc , instead of 140 or 100 you will find all the parts related to the engine assembly.

Contacted the CASE/IH catalog webmaster about a omission in the catalogs and they actually responded next day and added the missing tractor model. I was quite amazed to say the least. I was not expecting to ever hear any thing back from them.

Thank you so much. That is very helpful info and wouldn't have thought about looking in that manner

You can put a Chevy 350 in your tractor , or replace
with like block and keep it stock/factory . The
140/240/404 block is useable but will take several
modifications and some imagination I put a running
240 engine in a 100 for a customer to several hours
of fabricating pieces to make it work then you will
still have 2 bolt holes that no bolt will go in.
