bought 460 a year ago no ta hydraulics worked last winter when purchased used very little the last year hydraulics won't work at all now in winter is 303 fluid ok to use wont change till it gets warm again also will change filter --where is fluid level plug located and how many drain plugs what is hydraulic oil capacity--the fill is by shifter correct and filter on right side thanks

I would be concerned the hydraulic may not be very good
lubricant for the transmission. If you've not serviced it before
the problem could be due to a plugged filter, water in the oil, or
similar? Sam

I'm not saying 303 is as good as hytran, but it meets hytran specs and I use it. I recently changed the fluid in my 460 high utility, I think it was 10 gallons. Level plug is in the lower area on the left side of the transmission--the only one there. Rear drain plug under the pto, front one under the belly pointing toward the front, another pointing straight down in front of that one.

Yup it will work. The died in the wool guys will tell you no. We use a generic oil in all our equipment. For deere and IH.
I would look for ice or moisture in the filter, or like slush in the filter.

Take a bucket of 303 and set it out overnight at -20 degrees. You'll have your answer in the morning.

I learned that one the hard way.

303 is 20w oil. Like Allan I have found it gets
pretty thick in cold weather.
The 460 uses a filter on the suction side of the
pump. Any moisture in the oil or dirt in the
filter and the pump starves for oil. You will
probably need to change the filter at least every
fall if you want it to work in the winter.

TSC sells the fake hytran for $39.99 a bucket, only $10 more than the 303.

Also from the TSC website:
"SuperTrac 303 Tractor Hydraulic Fluid is recommended for ambient temperatures between +32°F and 104°F (0°C to 40°C). For ambient temperatures outside this range or where a premium tractor hydraulic/transmission oil is required, please use Super S Premium Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid."

I have a 1948 M farmall with the belly pump. I took it out to replace seals in the front of the transmission housing. What is the best oil to put back in the pump? Thanks, John Springer
