How full do you fill the trans/hydraulic on this 340 utility? There is not any plugs on either side of the transmission to use as a full indicator. And there isn't a dipstick on the filler plug.

An RTFM question.

Look for the level plug on the left side, near the front of the transmission housing, not very far from the front drain plug. It is probably a bit below the left foot rest.

ARSA, what page do see this information on?

Saddens me to see rude answers on the forum. I respected Jim Becker's answers in the past. They are helpful and informative. --Lee

I think you will find it right near the clutch pedal but may be somewhat hidden by a step or some other thing in the way. Should be same place as on a 460 and may have a small screw in a larger plug as that raises the level somewhat. Recheck after sitting a while or running a while.

Thanks pete 23. I did see that plug, but thought is was too low on the transmission case to be a full indicator.

I don't have a copy of the Owner's Manual so can't say what page there. The edition of the PM manual I checked, it is on page 45, in the section on changing hydraulic fluid. The Owner's Manual probably has a similar section.

Jim,
I did find it in a copy of the owners manual. I had to read through the section on lubrication real slow to find it. The next time I need to use the tractor I'll check out the plug. I bet I have the tranny overfilled.

A little overfilling is pretty easy if you don't use the level plug. I usually seems hard to believe the level should really be that low in the housing. It needs to be high enough so the lower gears run in the oil enough to keep it slung everywhere that needs it. It should be low enough to not submerge the gears or any seals more than necessary. Given the size of that housing, even an extra gallon won't raise it much.
