power steering piston gear alignment? IH 330

This morning I'm putting my power steering back together on my 330 and am having some friction when I turn the wheel all the way one direction. The photo shows the piston gears when the pump is all the way compressed. does the mesh look correct?

When I turn the wheel all the way the other direction there is some friction the last 1/2 turn. It appears the plate the piston is attached to is bottoming out? When the piston is removed there is no friction.

I'm thinking the piston gears are not aligned correctly?

I took the steering assembly apart and the gears for each shaft align perfectly in the center of each other.

Any thoughts?

The casting that covers the rack is (IIRC) partially in control of the depth of engagement.
Without lube it might be somewhat tight as well. I would assemble it. the friction you found might disappear when powered up. Jim
