IH 330 restoration and cleaning clutch and tranny

I’m restoring my IH 330 and dug into the clutch and transmission today. Everything came out milky white and I’m wondering if I can safely flush everything with diesel or is there a better option? The area around the clutch is caked with grease and dirt and I would like to get it as clean as possible but I don’t want to damage the clutch as I don’t intend to replace it or take the tranny apart. Any suggestions to get everything clean before new gaskets and lube?

Clutch should be dry? The transmission and rear end can be flushed with diesel , does it have a t/a , have you ran this tractor does it leak or make noise ? If the answers are all no I would work it and get the oil hot then let it cool overnight, this should let water separate , then drain the water off the bottom . My opinion if you don't have a seal leaking don't flush with diesel as this cleans dirt out and opens cracks to leak oil .

The area around the clutch is dry, just some build up of grease and dirt from a leaky top cover gasket. It does have a TA and the tractor makes no noise. I've run it the last 6 years.

Any recommendations on doing anything with the clutch or TA while the top and bottom cover are off?

Good to know about diesel. I think I will pass on this.

Not saying this is the way, but I drove my "H" down to the car wash, I'd removed all the covers and the belly pump, set it on Hot Wash, and I stuck that nozzle in every hole and opening I could, and blew all the gunk out. Really cleaned it, and it drove home just fine.

Cleaning the clutch housing is a messy job. I use mineral spirits and parts cleaner brush and then spray down with brake clean. These pictures are from a SM that I split last fall to fix the oil leaks. When I took the clutch apart it also needed to be replaced. The rivits that fasten the lining to the disc were starting to wear into the flywheel. I replace the seals on the front of the transmission and also the rear crankshaft seal. Replaceing all of these seals will help keep the clutch housing clean for a long time, I hope.
