IH 606 Hydraulic pump upgrade

Hello. I am putting a new 17gpm hydraulic pump into a 606 with serial no. 2485 s-y. I do not have a three point hitch on the back or a piggy back pump on my original 12gpm pump that failed and I removed. On the filter side I purchased the Precision Engineering filter extension kit to help with the pump noise and chatter. My question is what else do I need to do to complete the upgrade and also how do I check for backlash between the pump gear and PTO gear so that I can get the correct gasket thickness between the over and tractor body. One more thing, what suction tube do I need to use? The parts diagrams have two to choose from, based on the serial number, and my new one would be suction cross tube 384022r92 but what is the difference between tubes? my old suction tube has the number IH 383254R91 and I cannot find any refence to that number anywhere. Any help and/or pictures are greatly appreciated!!! Thank-you!

The suction tube will supercede to just one part number for all tractors. The seal on the tube is movable and will have to be set to the correct length. Also, if the rear of new pump is open it has to have a plate, gasket and 0-ring istalled on it.

Thank you Pete for your information. I was wondering though if there is a spec sheet or some documentation showing the part number of the suction tube and tube seal? The parts diagrams in the caseIH websites show that there is two suction tubes but they do not say any particulars like length or dimensions. And also it doesn't mention the tube seal separate from the tube itself. I'm going to assume the suction tubes are similar so I'll order a new one Monday

Seal is not sold separately so you get tube with seal on it. They always used to come with a chart showing the depth to move the seal to but I just measure the pump and depth shoulder is inside the transmission case and figure it out. I leave it a little long so when you install pump with tube inserted in pump the seal will be pushed to the correct distance when tightening pump down. The old part numbers will convert over to a new part number so which ever one you order you will get right one.

Thats great to know! I'm going to order some parts tomorrow and start my rebuild. Ill keep you posted on my progress. And if you have any other tips or pointers that I should know I'd appreciate that too!

I wanted to post an update on my progress. I installed the new pump and suction tube and it went together very easily. On the filter side input on my filter extender kit but noticed that the filter had a large opening on the exterior side. After some research I found out that I needed to order a filter bypass valve before I put the filter, extension and lid on the tractor. I did that and that side went together very nicely too! Also when putting on a dry pump I filled the pump with oil through the hole where the filter attaches until it came out before I put the filter in.
It started and now it sounds way way louder than it did before. It whines and it seems to get a little quieter when I steer left or right. The whining also seems to be coming not from the pump below which I would say indicates gears clashing but it's coming from the flow divider valve area. I'm hoping I could get some help with this yet as to what I should check out or test.
