Big Oill Filter On A Regular

My family had a 1928 Regular(T-26723)and I found a 1948 picture with newly built Machanical lift Manure Loader. In the picture just behind the Mag. is a hugh oil filter which ended up in the junk pile before the end of using the tractor. I think the farm record indicate they paid $17.34 for it in 1944. The tractor shows no sign of any other oil filter like the Instruction book illustrates.

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this? Unfortunatly the old oil filter is gone with the scrap metal. I was curious once and tore into it but lost interest when there was nothing in it but some hugh filter material. The tractor has an oil gauge yet. There were lots of modifications with F-20 parts along the way plus "Farmer Improvements". Thanks for any help Cleddy

cleddy, what you see is a oil tank for the loader! Regular's did not have oil filters till 1929! oldiron29

No oil tank for the loader. We had a Unique Mecanical "Power Lift" assembled out of Model "T" Ford Differential's that ran the Cable pulley on the side. It was used to lift various implements like a Post hole augar and plow. Note the Differential mounted under the cable winch pulley.

Loader got a makeover in 1959 with new hydralic cylinders and put on a WD-Allis.
Thanks for input.Cleddy

yes , i see it has the cathead setup for lifting. yes, they do have a guage, but that filter may be the add on type that many of these old tractors had. think it was called a reclaimer.

Somebody had a picture of that aftermarket oil filter a few months ago , I think it was on the forums here but could have been on Redpower. Maybe someone else will remember but if you do some searching you should find it.

Yes, there were add-on filters you could buy from places like tractor supply. One type had an aluminum housing and used a simple roll of toilet paper for the filter! Yours looks bigger than that. I have seen them your size but not lately. I think i have one of the toilet paper ones up overhead in the shed. Oil filters were not installed from the factory until 1929.

In high school Ag class in late '50's, us boys were told in an emergency we could use a few "feminine hygiene" products in the filter housings. As far as I know, nobody ever had the courage to actually get some and try it.

I had this one on a F20, if I remember it was a kit from Fram, had a large paper element in it.

That is a great picture. When and If I get mine running again I could put a old Chevy Canister oil filter on which are plentiful. To bad the big one I had is gone but since we didn't know what it was seemed like a good idea to clean the place up a little. I can't say what was in for an element but it looked like big mess with all the old-old-old black oil in it.

Our Regular had a F-20 gas tank and throttle control like yours. Also had a platform on the back with foot brakes Farmerized on it. Until recently I thought they were all like that. Looks like the original tank ended up on Terracer Plow and has been parked in the trees as long I can remember(1957-8 aprox. )with oil can lid over the inlet and might be in pretty good shape.Cleddy

I used the maxis in a 59 chev when in college. Spent 23 cents a day for dinner in purdue union Split pea soup and all the crackers i wanted. That was freshman year things did get better!!!
