farmall b seat

Only one seat from factory for your tractor and its the same as one for the A and B. There were aftermarket models made for those models also but only one from factory.

does the seat have differant mounts from the factory? Mine has a knoebler seat on it now and I would like to go back to factory.

There is one additional bracket required for the B that is not used on the A, BN, Super A, etc. It is at the bottom of the right support. Otherwise, all parts are the same. If your current seat uses any of the original supports, you are probably OK with a Super A seat.

Look at the seat page of the A/B Parts Catalog to see the extra piece.

This shows a Farmall B seat mounting, as it came from the factory.

As Jim Becker stated above, A, B, BN, Super A all use the same seat, but the B has an additional bracket on the right-hand side that is not shown clearly in the picture.

Look at the photographs of output form Louiseville factory yards on tractors awaiting shipping, Farmall Super A and Farmall C. All black seats. All IH production (apart from metal pan seats), i.e. all early Farmall M, H W-4 and W-6 had black seats. This was the norm until about 1949 or 1950 when the silver seats became the standard.

That pic is advertising showing the molded seat. Lots of adds in early days showed the molded seat. I remember new tractors in the 40s they had silver

So you are saying the Bs built in Louisville should have come with a black seat pan. Then why did ours have a silver one.

The steel pan seat with the molded foam rubber top disappeared late 1939 or early 1940 and was replaced by 3/4 inch of felt with a waterproof??? canvas cover. My grandfathers first Farmall M (early 1940 in New Zealand but photographs of the decals etc. indicate a 1939 tractor) had the early seat and the 1945 Farmall M that replaced it had the black canvas covered seat.

Maybe over there. Here, I think all the early ones that were padded, were silver on color. My father in-laws was, and it was a 51. I just looked at Steiner's catalog and shows a split in serial numbers.

The IHC 1940 Catalogue (Wisconsin Historical Society web site) shows the early Farmall, A,B,H and M with the molded foam rubber covered seats (all dark looking compared with other tractor colours. i.e. likely black). The 1949 IH catalogue shows all wheeled tractors with dark coloured seats (i.e. not silver). It is a pity that these catalogues were not in colour but non of the seats shown were of a light colour.
