NEW PROJECT

Just picked up this 1953 Super MD today, she's a little ruff, I know of a parts tractor I can get most of the parts I will need so that wont be to bad. Will need to locate the hydro control rods for the main hydro unit and the second rod for the auxillary valve. Will also need the small bracket that holds the 2 rods to light bar. Engine is complete and turns over. Sheet metal is ruff but can get replacement. Don't see to many of these in my area that's why I got it,plus I enjoy a good project.

Unless the other side has been beat with a ball bat, that tin is wayyyy better than either one of my M's. I've always thought MD's were a cool tractor. Maybe someday I'll add one to the shed.

The other side of the hood and grill looks like it was rubbed against a tree and the hood has some rust in the front lower corner. My friend does sheet metal/body work I may let him take a look and see what he can do before I get the other tin.

Yes ihc made their own pump, they started using it mid/late 1942. The bosch was only used for a few years on ihc products.

Jim think maybe you ask about early MD on another site.
Do you have any date codes like this on the early MD. Looked at three 41 MD tractors with what appears to be a letter for month on the casting instead of a number. One with A was on the engine block.
One with E on it or maybe a 5 that didn't turn out right was on a transmission. Don't know if it was the original transmission. Pictured date codes don't look like some other types, but found that type on tractors without any other date code on the casting several times.

I will have to look at my 41, it seems to me mine had similar date style codes. I think mine was on the engine but will check. I know mine had the standard number-number-letter code on alot of the main castings. That is interesting though. Jim.

Yeah the parts can be hard to find... I have messed around with a couple mds now I always enjoy the challenge. I have access to a complete parts md with a shot engine that has the parts I will need for this one so will see what happens.

This one had water in the cylinders due to a busted manifold. I was able to find sleeves and pistons, and bearings, but OUCH!! Then I was not able to find the center thrust baring, which was wore on the sides pretty bad, so I had to let it go, not knowing what it was going to cast if the pump or injectors were bad. WOrse part is I discovered the expence while the head was being reworked. An old buddy of mine had it, it belonged to his grandfather I think, but he was moving and had to sell it. Pictured it is a few days before I actually bought it.

After reading all the posts here, I'm thinking I should stop dreaming about this '58 that was offered to me . . . for an as yet undetermined price. I gather that parts are harder to find and pricier than they are for my Ford. I kind of abandoned the notion to buy it when the owner said that the oil pressure dropped to zero when hot but now I'm rethinking it. He said he put a new clutch in it recently.

thanks,
Terry

It's a 350 Utility

Jimmy,

I'm afraid it is too far from Louisiana for you.
I'm in extreme western Canada . . . on an island. :)
