IH 606 Draft Control

Hey guys! So my 606 is missing the draft control lever (#87). I have picked up a lever from a local salvage yard. I have not had a lot of time to look into this yet, but it looks as though the splined end of the draft sensitivity control lever shaft (#80) is broken off, so there is nothing left to attach the lever to. Anyone know what it should look like, or how to remove it? Thanks!!

I just helped Dad work on the 3pt unit for his 656, which looks pretty much the same as that parts diagram you posted.

The problem with his was in the draft control feedback linkages, and let me tell you it is a nightmare of complex mechanisms, impossible angles, and "Jesus clips" galore.

Even with the large top cover removed we couldn't get at anything we needed to so we ended up lifting the unit off the tractor, and flipping it up so we could get at it through the small hole in the bottom.

Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to where the levers came in. Maybe you can get them after lifting the cover off under the seat. If so you'll have it fairly easy.

Pull the cylinder assembly out to get at the inside end of the levers. It is not the easiest job but just pay attention to how the parts are assembled when taking it apart. Clips, springs, roll pins, indexing marks etc.

The cylinder assembly is number 22 in the picture. It has the draft control (mechanism that controls the lift and drop of hitch) valve bolted right onto it and all comes out together. In other words it is the main working part and does the lifting and lowering of hitch.
