head gasket for c113 vs c123

I am unsure if my engine is a C113 or C123. The cylinder bore measures about 3.184. The head gasket has a number 366301R1, the old gasket cylinder diameter is about 3.538. I ordered a new head gasket that is advertised as the same number, 366301R1. The new gasket cylinder diameter is almost 1/8" smaller. Other than that it is identical. Will this cause a problem? Should I use the gasket or return it?

Thanks
Richard

Same part number should be the same gasket. Thus I assume you have a replacement from another company (or CaseIH is now outsourcing that part). There are 2 things you should verify to make sure the new gasket will work OK. Both can be seen in your earlier picture of the old one. One is the odd shaped hole on the right. It needs to look like your old one (a smaller and round hole is for tractors with water pumps). The second is the hole for the cylinder. It should be small enough to cover the seam between the sleeves and the bore in the block. But it also needs to be large enough that it does not overhang past the sleeve over the cylinder. The area of concern is the flattened area next to the odd shaped hole.

Not sure on part numbers, but the 113 is a 3 x 4 engine, the 123 is a 3.125 x 4 . you 're measuring with the sleeve in it right ?

the area of concern is the fire ring to match the sleeves. if your old one is correct and the new one is 1/8 smaller diameter then you have a problem.

The new gasket has the large holes for no water pump which is what I have. The new gasket does not extend into the cylinder. First picture shows where old gasket set. Second picture is with new gasket. Third picture is with old gasket.

One more thing, I pressed in new valve guides and need to ream them. What size reamer? Can anyone point me to a source?

Can you elaborate on "fire ring". I do not know what that is.
The problem is I do not know if the old gasket was the correct one.

fire ring is the ring of metal crimped around the cyl. bore on the gasket. I just looked at the pic's and it appears to me as this new gasket is good and the old one not good, or was incorrect. this new gasket should give you a bit more compression also, as its making the combustion area smaller.
as for the reaming of guides don't know size as its machine shop work. once guides are installed valves and seats MUST be ground or replaced accordingly and valve stems measured for wear also, and all the other stuff that goes with it. but maybe you are a machinist and doing the job.

If the guides have been installed, and they are too small for the stems to be inserted (even with making sure the stem butt is not mushroomed) reaming is needed. .001 to .0015 clearance is desirable (with Perfect Circle Style seals).
The valve seats will need to be touched up to match the guide axis or (most likely) valves will not seat. Jim.

For anything that shows in the picture, the new gasket is fine. Be sure to have the top of the block/sleeves and bottom of the head completely clean before reassembly. Go over them with a razor scraper. I won't repeat what the other have already said on the valve guides etc.

The lip where the gasket sets is the same whether it is a 3in bore or even a 3 1/4 bore the difference is the size of the hole and not the lip on top of the sleeve as they are all the same.
