I have a friend with a 706 gas that lost compression on one cylinder. We pulled the head and found a bad exhaust valve. He has access to a 301 combine motor for another head. I know the 301 head will work on a 291 motor but I am pretty sure his has the 263 in it. Will it still work?

Yes, but a complete c301 engine is worth 2 or 3 times what it would cost to do a valve job on the 291 head.

Do a valve job and have the head LIGHTY dressed to make it flat . And change the oil your using in that engine as i can bet that you are not using LOW ASH . And by not using LOW ASH you can just plan on doing more valve jobs in the future .

I have 656 with 263 engine . i sugues do valve job . put perfick circle seal on guides . my engine has 4000 hr on valve job . i dont use low ash oil

Just take the head you already have to a machine shop and tell them to fix it. It will cost some money, but how much time and money are you going to spend doing a swap, only to find out the USED head needs a valve job also? And it probably does.
