Alternator wire

Ok I'm going to try and explain this the best I can so just bear
with me. Did some rewiring on the 300 yesterday and had left
one wire that goes from the front bolt on the alternator one
closed to the distributor I had left it off so I didn't rember where
it goes to:/ does it go to the key switch, amp Gauge I'm
stumped? Also I'm not sure if with one was positive and negative but the picture is the same alternator that is on my 300 as it is on the super m to. Thanks

If you are new here you can't post pictures until you are registered, and then (usually after a week or so. (Prevents nasty pictures). If you are a regular poster, the pictures didn't work.
If the Alternator is a Delco 10SI, there are 3 terminals, A big stud/nut post that goes to the amp meter load side (if it has not been rewired for negative ground, the Amp gauge terminals must be switched for proper operation.) This is the terminal that connects to the fuse and the key, and the old wire from the voltage regulator, it should be 10 gauge.
The other 2 wires are connected with spade terminals in a connector at the edge of the alt housing. The #2 terminal attaches to the big stud terminal directly with 14 gauge wire, it senses voltage. The #1 terminal has a 3 amp diode with band on diode toward alt), or a marker lamp bulb, or a 10 ohm resistor in line (series) with it (14 gauge wire is good). The (Diode, orLamp, or Resistor other lead connects to the Key side of the coil (or the Key side of the ballast resistor before the coil if it has one). The diode or lamp, or resistor prevent the engine from continuing to run when the key is turned off. I hope this is what you need. Jim

No is a alternator but I've been told it's in the shell of a old generator I've seen 3or 4 of them on different tractors

That is a Delco Generator, it is not a Factory supplied type, so you will need to go to a reliable auto electric repair shop to get the correct external voltage regulator for it. (Not NAPA or Auto Zone like stores, they sell parts, not solutions. Have the person there draw a diagram of the wiring. Ignore my prior post as it is for a Delco alternator. (correct, but not for you unless you gowith a 10SI. Jim

If it is truly an Alternator, It still is not the correct style to mimic originality. And you will need to have a competent auto electric shop assist with wiring, (or find the web site of the original remanufacturer. Advice we give for it will likely make more smoke than charging. Jim

There are alternators in generator shells, you could be right, but they are several hundred dollars each.

Can you take a close picture of the ends and ID tag.

I'll have to check the model and manufacturing name on it tomoorow the tractor is across town at the home farm so I'll have some good pictures tomorrow
