IH 3514 tractor with International 3141 hoe hydraulic filter

Hello Folks,

I'm brand new to the list. I just bought an IH 3514 with an International 3141 hoe and I'm going over the rig thoroughly. I changed the Hy-Tran fluid and the return hydraulic filter but can't find the primary hydraulic filter.

On the right side of the hoe near the coupling with the tractor is a round cylinder which protrudes with hoses attached that's about the size of the filter, but along with a centered bolt, as you would find on a canister, the unit has about 8 bolts around the base holding it on.

Does anyone know if the primary filter is housed in this (it's thick steel, not the metal stamping one would expect on a canister), and if not, where might it be hiding??

I've never looked close at a 3514. I have a 3414
backhoe/loader (3120 hoe as I recall) and the main
hydraulic filter sits in the filler-hole in the
hydraulic tank. When I first got the machine that
filter was missing and both hydraulic pumps were
worn out. I'd never had known a filter belonged
there until a looked at the parts book.

Thanks for the reply. Mine must be a bit different than yours. My filler for the hydraulic fluid is about a 1 1/4 pipe into the transmission with a pipe thread cap just to the left of the shift lever. Guess I'll keep looking. I did find out that what looks like a canister the size of the filter I got is the swing cylinder.

It's been a while since I helped my dad serviced the one we had, but I remember it being on the right side and it is an odd shape for a filter. Can't remember what the cover looked like, but I do remember it was a pain to change and only went out and back in one way on ours. Dads was a hydraul shuttle with the torque converter drive. He put Pistons rings in it in 1980, didn't matter how long it sat, throw batteries in it, glow plug it for about 30 seconds and it always fired right up.
