Kerosene Forced Air Heater

I own one of those force-air kerosene heaters (I know it's not a tractor, but I use it when I work on my H or my daughter's BN). My dad had this heater on his farm in the milking parlor. I got it after he died. Anyway, instead of kerosene, he filled it from the diesel fuel tank. Is this safe? Anyone else ever do this? I wanna know because I can buy diesel fuel for about 70-80 cents per gallon cheaper.

we have a salamander at work, and i think it only has ever run on diesel. it only gets used for about 3 weeks a year.. but when needed it's nice to have a torpedo heater for the guys laying on the concrete fixing things in the shop.

With diesel fuel, you MIGHT notice a slight odor, but nothing to worry about. Mine has never had anything in BUT diesel. Only time it ever makes any smoke at all is when it runs out of fuel. It will make one little "poof", and then it shuts down. Probably would do the same thing on kerosene.

Depends upon the coldest temp the heater will be exposed to and if it's #1 or #2 diesel.

Thanks, guys. My Dad always used fuel from the diesel tank (the one that fueled up the John Deere 3020). and it certainly is cheaper than kerosene!
