Farmall 100 Starter

I am needing a starter for a 1956 Farmall 100. Not much of a problem finding one on the internet however; after reading a lot about the aftermarket starters I am wondering if it would be better to try and locate and old starter and see about getting it rebuilt. I haven't been too successful at locating an old starter that will work. They are sort of a rarity around here. I have access to a gentleman who is good in rebuilding starters, he was in business in 1984 when I first met him. I am open to your thoughts, opinions and suggestions. Thanks in advance.

kub6040, Can I give you a call tommorrow? What time would be best for you? By the way, I live near Natchitoches. Thanks

Forgive me for asking the obvious, but why can't you just take the current starter to the guy and have it rebuilt?

It didn't have a starter or generator on it when I got it a couple of weeks ago. It was missing a coil also. A friend brought over a magneto, we changed it out. I had already cleaned the carb so we pulled it about ten foot and it fired right up. He said that the engine sounded good and had plenty of power, no smoke, idled smoothly with no hesitation when accelerating. Gears all work great, hydraulics as well. This tractor had been sitting under a shed for no telling how many years and unfortunately parts were robbed from her. I didn't want to buy a starter or generator/alternator until I made sure the tractor ran. Now she has a bright future ahead instead of being neglected. Thanks
