Steering Cup positions

In the front where the steering arm comes out and
the two tie rods connect, what is the correct
positions for the cups. Mine had none in it when I
disassembled the steering. It was tied together
with a rope. I know that it takes at least one
double cup in the middle. I did not know if it took
others on the lh and rh side.

Steering cups is a bit of an unknown. If you refer to the adjustable ball joint, or tie rod end, then they can be serviced. Usually the ball is out of round and it might be possible to grind it spherical with care (usually not). The disks can be replaced if they are missing.
318309 and lower Serial numbers have adjustable rod ends on both. If above that # the rod ends are not adjustable. The non adjustable ends appear to be available. You will need to have the others repaired, or components made. Jim

Seats inside the steering arm: from the driver's position, the left hand, stationary, single-cup, non-adjustable, seat #57 874 D, is thicker than the right-hand, single-cup, adjustable seat #57 875 D. The seat in the middle, #57 873 D has cups on both sides. The steering arm adjustable seat is the same adjustable seat used in the tie-rod ends. The stationary tie-rod seat is #43 468 D. This seat is thinner than the stationary seat in the steering arm. All this applies to the older version tie-rods with balls forged on the end of the rods. Mine had been welded up and ground to shape at least two times. I cut the balls off and replaced them with 1" dia. ball bearings welded on.

I have to amend the above reply. The stationary cup in the steering arm is NOT thicker than the adjustable cup. It IS thicker than the stationary cup in the tie-rod ends.

I have had good luck using a 4in disc sander and calapiers making them round again to remove the egg shaped ones takes a little time.
